Release Plan and Objectives
TopBraid 4.3 introduces several significant improvements to EVN and the underlying TopBraid platform. EVN is now more than “just” a SKOS editor, but can also be used to edit arbitrary RDFS/OWL ontologies and acts as a powerful platform for other semantic editing environments.
EVN now also integrates better with SharePoint, Solr and includes new faceted search components.
Beyond EVN, key improvements and new features in 4.3 focus on enriching TopBraid platform, making it even more extensible and easier to integrated with enterprise systems. 4.3 release also includes a beta version of our new solution, TopBraid Insight, providing federated search across distributed data sources.
Key Improvements of 4.3
TopBraid Enterprise Vocabulary Net (EVN)
- The EVN core functionality has been generalized into the TopBraid Teamwork Platform. This makes it easy for SWP developers to create ontology-driven applications with features such as user management, change tracking and reviewing of working copies.
- Added a “default” application for EVN: an editor for general RDFS/OWL Ontologies, not only SKOS-based models.
- It is now possible to link EVN Vocabularies to a SharePoint server, so that there is a list of documents with the matching keyword at the bottom of a Concept’s page.
- Added a feature to automatically update a Solr index based on edits in EVN, boosting the performance of semantic search.
- Integrated the new Faceted Search components (see below) into EVN.
TopBraid Platform Features available for Composer, Live and EVN
- New Faceted Search component that will use a fast Solr index when available.
- Improved SWA search gadgets framework, including a result viewer using Google Maps.
- Added an SWP-based Event-Condition-Action rules engine, to perform side effects or additional updates after each edit on a graph.
- Many improvements to the SWP language, including a more regular file format (*.ttlx) and a new object-oriented model for organizing views, methods and services.
- SWA gadgets can now be embedded into other web applications via Ajax loads and interact with other parts of the surrounding page via a standard event hub.
- New ui:DataViews framework to include tables and visualizations on a resource’s form.
- Many improvements and new features for the SWA component library, especially for editing.
- New SPARQLMotion module for integration with JMS.
TopBraid Insight
- Beta release for trial within TopBraid Composer.
