New Case Study: Improving Data Governance with TopBraid Enterprise Vocabulary Net

Case study: Managing Metadata to Leverage Data Governance describes how using TopBraid EVN, a financial services firm achieved better and timelier access to information about what data is being used by which applications, along with metrics and reporting on data quality, data lineage, and data connections.

Laurie Nelsen, Ontology Manager, Mayo Clinic, Presents at KMWorld 2014

Pushing the Envelope: From CMS to KCMS Laurie's talk will outline Mayo Clinic's agile approach to providing the best current health information by extending traditional CMS technologies with a semantic services layer that enables users to find the right information, no matter who authored it or how it is stored.

TopQuadrant's TopBraid EVN and TopBraid Live products power the semantic services layer in Mayo's solution. For more details, see this Case Study related to Laurie's talk.

TOPQUADRANT IN THE NEWS On September 18, 2014, the article Semantic Interoperability of Electronic Healthcare Info On The Agenda At U.S. Veterans Health Administration described the importance of a schema-flexible model in merging disparate data models at the VA. Rafael Richards, a physician informaticist, uses TopQuadrant's SPINMap at the VA to align data sources for vital signs from different systems using SPARQL Inferencing Notation (SPIN) to run automated RDF rules. On August 22, 2014, the article TopBraid Suite 4.5 Puts The Focus on Enterprise-User Readiness reviewed TopBraid Suite 4.5 as a major release that provides many new and enhanced capabilities for vocabulary and metadata management, as well as for creating custom, model-driven solutions that deliver a seamless flow of data and metadata within newly enhanced collaborative workflows. On July 31, 2014, A Semantic Data Ecosystem in the Oil and Gas Sector in Norway described how TopQuadrant helped EPIM implement its vision of a shared suite of knowledge-based applications for the Norwegian Oil & Gas industry. These applications, built using Semantic Web standards and the domain concepts from ISO 15926, suggest some key features and insights applicable to other applications involving data integration across diverse systems.

TopBraid Insight is a semantic virtual data warehouse with true federated query capability and an agile, extensible approach to querying data from diverse data sources. Availability of information is at the heart of solving business problems across industries. TopBraid Insight's on-demand integrated access to diverse data makes it possible to discover information just in time. When integrating multiple sources of data or federating queries across multiple relational sources, it's rare for different schemas to align as well as you might like. In most cases, you'll need some transformations. There are many ways to reshape relational data, and each presents its own advantages and difficulties. The Veterans Administration uses SPIN and SPINMap today to align patient data. The tutorial Reshaping Relational Data using SPINMap shows how to use SPINMap to reshape the most typical relational patterns and transform relational data.
