TopBraid Composer - Maestro Edition (TBC-ME) is a greatly extended version of TopBraid Composer Standard Edition.
TBC-ME is optimized to develop and administrate web applications based on the TopBraid Live platform. Most notably TBC-ME can launch its own internal web server so that the web application developer can directly prototype and test the application based on the currently loaded model - no other server installation and file synchronization is needed. The result are significantly improved turn-around times in your application development life cycle. You can this way for example run TopBraid Ensemble out-of-the-box on your laptop.
Other additional features include:
SPARQLMotion – TBC-ME enables the creation and execution of SPARQLMotion scripts. SPARQLMotion, another key new feature, is a new scripting language from TopQuadrant for creating data processing chains. SPARQLMotion scripts support a variety of operations including SPARQL queries, ontology mapping, data filters and converters, rule sets, inferencing using inferencers integrated with TBC, calls to web services, imports and exports, and XML processing. Scripts are stored as OWL models and can be conveniently edited with Composer's form and graph editors, or using TopBraid Ensemble. SPARQLMotion scripts can be executed and debugged either within TBC-ME or using TopBraid Live. Currently, SPARQLMotion is under active development and will be incrementally rolled out with full functionality available by early 2008.
Semantic Server Pages – Java server pages can be executed from within the development environment to generate new documents (HTML, XML, etc.) from templates. Using a new tag library, SPARQL queries can be embedded into the templates. Server pages can also be used to deploy semantic data into web pages or web services. The design of the TopBraid tag library is inspired by David Powell's sparqltag library - many thanks to Dave!
XML Round-tripping – An innovative new XML-OWL mapping feature enables Composer users and semantic applications to load arbitrary XML files, run queries and transformations on the XML in RDF, manipulate the data, and save it back to XML without loss of information.
BIRT Report Generator – TBC-ME also provides a comprehensive Business Intelligence Reporting Tool (BIRT). BIRT can be used to generate reports including tables and graphical charts (pie charts etc) where the data is directly taken from an ontology. BIRT can render reports in various formats including PDF and images, and the reports can be inserted into web pages to drive semantically enriched web applications.
EMail Import - Another new feature is the ability to convert Emails into OWL, supporting semantic analysis and classification of emails. Furthermore, TBC-ME comes with a flexible XML import and output mechanism that allows users to load arbitrary XML documents, query and manipulate them, and then save them back to XML.
Future versions of TBC-ME will provide further administration capabilities to deploy and verify server installations. This will include the ability to use Flex Builder to edit TopBraid forms. The support and maintenance package will ensure that such updates are free.

Licensing
TopBraid Composer - Maestro Edition requires a different license key than the Standard Edition. Both versions are available separately, and upgrades from Standard to Maestro Edition can be purchased. See the purchase page for pricing information.
TopBraid Composer users that do not decide to purchase Maestro can download and evaluate the full version for a 30 days evaluation period. After that time, the additional capabilities will be disabled. At any time, a different license key can be entered in the Help menu. |
