TopBraid Live™ is an enterprise SOA-capable Semantic Web application platform optimized for delivering dynamic model-based applications. With TopBraid Live, you can quickly implement solutions that integrate data, content, application services and user interactions.

Easy Application Development

TopBraid Live provides an extensive set of ready-to-use semantic modules that you can easily combine, assemble and deploy as web services. Based on an open pluggable architecture, as are all TopBraid Suite products, TopBraid Live makes it easy to integrate the best available custom and commercially available components.

For example, application developers using TopBraid Live server can:

• Select among a number of database backends such as Oracle 11G, AllegroGraph, Sesame
• Enforce an optimal inference strategy with fine-tuned control using a selection or combination of standard and custom built inferencers, for example:
  • server-side reasoning with Oracle 11G
  • SPARQL Rules (SPIN) – SPARQL-based inferencing that integrates with any RDF database

Rapid application development is supported through integration of the entire TopBraid Suite. All models, scripts, rules and other artifacts developed in TopBraid Composer - Maestro edition can be tested immediately using the Personal Server. Deployment to an Enterprise server is a simple "Deploy" step. Seamless migration is ensured through the common infrastructure (TopBraid Platform) for both Personal and Enterprise Servers. Applications working in Personal Server will work in Enterprise Server without modification, and vice-versa.

Key Components

• TopBraid Services provide a variety of Platform Services such as model management, query brokering, data source conversion and integration, form and display generation, inference orchestration and cache management.
  • Java developers can access and extend services using Java APIs for server-side development.
  • More than 100 services are also available as SPARQLMotion modules. SPARQLMotion is used to compose and connect RESTful data services without Java development.
• TopBraid Live Java Server is responsible for communicating between web-based user interfaces and TopBraid services. Two network protocols are supported:
  • An optimized XML-based interface for TopBraid Ensemble applications
  • A REST web services interface for non-TBE applications

Two versions of TopBraid Live are available: Personal Server and Enterprise Server. Both editions build on the TopBraid Platform, as shown in this figure:

TopBraid Live Enterprise Server

TopBraid Live Enterprise Edition is a web application that provides full Internet or intranet access to the applications that you develop with the TopBraid Suite. Enterprise Server is deployed on a web container, such as Tomcat, and supports multi-user access from distributed clients. Users and services can access Enterprise Server installations through web services, Ensemble applications, and Flex applications using the TopBraid Live SDK, SPARQL endpoints, and other TopBraid Suite features. TopBraid Live Personal Server

The Personal Server edition of TopBraid Live is included with TopBraid Composer-Maestro Edition (TBC-ME) to replicate Enterprise Server features on a local machine. It executes in a single-user environment, providing a powerful tool for designing, developing, and testing Semantic Web applications before deploying them to a TopBraid Live Enterprise Server. You can access the TopBraid Live Personal Server console from any browser running on the same machine as TBC-ME. SPARQL endpoints and other web services running on the Personal Server can also be accessed from browsers and other applications running on the same machine.

Once applications are designed with TBC-ME and the Personal Server, you can deploy them to the Enterprise Server for full Internet and intranet access.

You can evaluate TopBraid Live and TopBraid Ensemble by using the free evaluation copy of TopBraid Composer Maestro Edition. A built-in TopBraid Live Personal Server and TopBraid Ensemble are now included with the TopBraid Composer Maestro Edition.
