2007 Semantic Web Technology Training Series
TopQuadrant is offering a continuing program of training on Semantic Technologies developed in collaboration with Jim Hendler. The program focuses on the use of Semantic Web standards to enable the next generation of enterprise applications for business and government.
The program is jointly designed and delivered with Jim Hendler to feature the latest content, developments, standards and state-of-the-art knowledge and experience in this important, emerging field.
In 2007, public classes will be offered in the Washington, DC and the Silicon Valley area on an approximate bi-annual basis.

Scaling the Semantic Wall with AllegroGraph and TopBraid Composer
Monday, July 16, 2007 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EDT
A Joint Webinar by TopQuadrant and Franz:
Developing and deploying semantic applications for an enterprise requires both an ontology design and development environment and a scalable triple database. By integrating Franz's AllegroGraph RDFStore with TopQuadrant's TopBraid Composer, users now have the essential foundation to build their semantic solutions with -- a scalable, interactive graphical development platform. These components work together to enable developers to build comprehensive, large-scale semantic models that can be stored and queried very efficiently. In this seminar, we will highlight complementary capabilities of both products and demonstrate how they work together to support highly productive semantic application development.

9 pm to 12 pm, July 25: Building Geo-Mashup Applications Using the Semantic Web and TopBraid Composer
In this workshop, participants will construct a semantic mashup application from end to end, starting with data capture and analysis, data merging, semantic modeling, display, and finally finishing with deployment. Each step of the process is fully grounded in semantic technology standards (RDF, RDFS, OWL, SWRL, and SPARQL) and supported by the TopBraid tool suite. Each participant will pursue a data mashup project throughout the tutorial, using data either of their own choosing or from the instruction materials. The deployed system will be built entirely using the principles of ontology-driven software development; all customization and construction of the system will be achieved using modeling constructs in RDFS, OWL, or SWRL. The following components of semantic deployment will be covered:
- Data sources for semantic mashups; microformats, RDFA, RSS, etc.
- Basic modeling in RDFS and OWL and how they support data mashups
- Advanced modeling using SWRL and SPARQL
- Display of information using ontology-driven plug-ins
- Deployment of a semantic application using TopBraid Live
